It’s almost that time again, we’re getting ready to ramp things back up going into the weekend. Just wanted to post a little preview of this weekends track to get everyone in the racing mindset, so lets jump right into it.
Michigan International Speedway
We’re back to just left turns again this week and the Sprint Cup heads to Michigan. Michigan International Speedway is a 2 mile oval (ish) track and they’ll be going around it 200 times. More laps means more lap related points, so that’s something we’ll discuss in this preview. But for now, here’s a super exciting map of the track.
Starting Position History
I wont go as in depth as I did last week, as its just going to be the same charts, so hopefully they will require less explanation.
You’ll see that the front row, as usual, is a very strong position to be in. But you’ll also notice a nice window in the middle of the pack that appears to offer up some good value. And, also as usual, the back of the pack offers pretty consistently low scores.
Here is the breakdown of how drivers from the various starting positions are scoring their points, and the average driver pie chart. As you can see, a lot more points coming from laps led and fastest laps this week (up to 200 laps from 90 laps, means more than 2x), but its still a pretty small piece of the puzzle. Once again, you’ll see laps led and fastest laps being dominated by that top group, but there appears to be a decent window for the middle of the pack to steal some of those points. Contests this week, especially the GPPs, could be won by finding that gem from the middle of the pack that can get out front for a while.
Track History
Winners/Top 5’s and Top 10’s since 2005, among drivers that are listed on the Draftkings Roster this weekend.
There you have it, a nice quick 5-minute preview of what we could have in store for this weekend. Be on the lookout for details about our lineup subscription offering heading into the weekend, the plan right now is to offer two full 10-lineup sets, each with different settings. We’re also planning to continue the twitter promotion, where you can win a customized set of lineups for the following weekend by tweeting me screenshots of your Sunday lineups, more details on that to come as well.
