Wednesday August 19th (Early Only) Top Plays
We’ve got a nice 5 game slate to break up our Humpday Work Week today. There are several players I like on this small slate and I’ll do my best to list them below, with some explanation as to why we like them this afternoon.
Sano is a regular in our Top Plays segements and for good reason. The kid just flat out RAKES! He went yard again last night, vs the Yankees, it was his 2nd homer in as many days vs the Pinstripers. Today, he gets another nice matchup with Nathan Eovaldi, who, is no slouch vs Right Handed Hitters, but, he’s not elite either. I like Sano’s chances of Homering for the 3rd day in a row this Afternoon.
Miguel Sano vs RHP: .311 avg – .423 OB% – .439 wOBA – 46.3% Hard Contact Rate – 37% Fly Ball Rate
It seems like just the other day, we were talking about Nelson Cruz vs a Lefty = Auto Play for me. Well, here we are again, Cruz and the Mariners vs a Lefty, Derek Holland, in Texas, with the wind blowing out to Right Field this afternoon… Is there anything more to say?
Nelson Cruz vs LHP: .339 Avg – .443 wOBA – .295 ISO – 40% FB Rate – 40% Hard Contact rate
Excuse me for basically rehashing an article from the Other day, but, when these guys are in a matchup vs a bad Left Handed Pitcher, I just plug them in and move on. You wont find a better matchup on Paper, so why waste the time trying to “outsmart” everyone? The key to MLB DFS is to consistently put yourself in Positive Situations, and, over the long haul of the Season, when you put yourself in those Situations over and over again, I believe it will pay off more times than not. Don’t let one or two bad games get your off of a Situation / Matchup that you know is ELITE. #EmraceTheGrind
Franklin Gutierez vs LHP: .345 Avg – .446 wOBA – .345 ISO – 31.8% FB Rate – 37% Hard Contact rate
Lind is a career masher of Right Handed Pitching and today he gets a matchup with a guy who has struggled mightily vs Left Handed Batters this year, and for most of his career in Tom Kohler. The Marlins right hander has two stats that really stick out to me. 1) He has a low BABIP which means he’s been benefitting from Good Defense behind him, and 2) he has a very high hard contact rate of 37% vs Left Handed Hitters, which means, when they make contact, they hit the ball very hard (and usually far)… Hard Contact + Fly Ball% + HR/FB% all lead me to believe that Lind will take Kohley DEEP this afternoon.
Adam Lind vs RHP: .323 Avg – .392 OB% – .395 wOBA – .205 ISO – 37% FB Rate – 40% Hard Contact rate
Tom Kohler vs LHB: .227 Avg – .304 OB% – .311 wOBA – 36% FB Rate – 37% Hard Hit Rate – 18% HR/FB%
Honorable Mentions:
Adrian Beltre, Adrian Gonzalez, Justin Turner, Mike Napoli
