Hey guys, I have been asked this question a lot lately. What is your Late Slate strategy that you always talk about? I talk about it all the time but for people who don’t understand the concept of WHY I do what I do, here’s a Quick Hitter for you guys.
When it comes to the late slate, the games are usually higher scoring. If you look at Vegas Lines daily, you’ll notice a trend that the later games are usually projected for the highest totals of the night. Reason being, those games are being played on the West Coast where the style of basketball play is different. It’s more of a Run N Gun strategy, think Phoenix Suns with Steve Nash.
Most of these teams are offensively minded and defensively inefficient. Yeah you have the Warriors who skew the nightly results because of how ridiculous they are. BUT as good as they are and as many wins as they have, they let up a ton of points on a daily basis. They are the outlier in this tier of teams. When it comes to teams like Denver, Phoenix, LA Lakers, Portland, etc.. they are less focused on defensive efficiency and more focused on running the ball and pushing the pace.
With an increased pace comes increased scoring opportunities including more shots attempted, potential rebounds, more possessions = higher chance for steals, etc… You can also get these guys as lower owned % just because most people who watch NBA watch the earlier games and want to see the players they choose.
We are not trying to BE contrarian with finding low owned players. What we are doing is creating a contrarian lineup construction itself. The way we are putting together the lineups are different than mostly all the people who are playing NBA DFS.
I LOVE Small slates and It’s where I’ve personally had all my big GPP wins. I’ve taken down multiple GPPs in the express and late slates. What I was noticing in NBA was that my Main lines were doing well, usually hitting around 295-315 range. But my late slates were hitting 320+ on many of the nights. After being pissed off time and time again seeing my later lineups crush it (while those same guys are passing me in my main lineup) I figured I would try something new.
I started CREATING my lineups in the SMALLER SLATES… What I like to do, and this is a GPP strategy, I don’t necessarily recommend it for cash but it seems consistent enough to try it out. I like to make the lineup in the small slate, not the main.. Then I TRANSFER that small slate lineup into the main slate. It’s a strategy that I employ but really should have been doing so much more throughout the length of the season.
I provided an example of last night’s lineups. I had a pretty good lineup for the main slate, but my Late slate blew it out of the water, and that was before the MIA/LAL game went into overtime, which I had 5 guys from. These were both in $5 GPPs and if I had taken my own advice and put the Late in the Main, would’ve had a great night all around, instead it was just good. That’s besides the point that Jon Leuer had 2 points in my main lineup lol
I hope you guys enjoy this strategy and I hope it works for you. Send me any and all feedback to my Twitter @xBenJamminx
