NBA THURSDAY 1/21/16
Pretty large slate tonight, for being a Thursday. Generally we’ll see small 3 Game slates on Thursdays, but tonight
we’re being treated with a nice 5 Game Slate. The Marque Matchup tonight is between the LA Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. After the Cavs got ran out of their own Gym on Monday, they bounced back with an impressive win vs the Brooklyn Nets last night. The Clippers, had lost Blake Griffin for awhile, but, they’ve been on Fire recently without him, winning 10 Straight games heading into the Thursday Night TNT Special. As a Cavs fan myself, I’m really hoping the team can show up this time, on a National Stage vs a top tier Opponent.
It should be a fun night of NBA Action, but before we get started, I want to talk you my friends over at FANTASY LABS. Chris Paul | 51.17 | 52.10 | 48.20 | 41.90 | 13.51 |
Rajon Rondo | 39.67 | 37.15 | 38.53 | 40.51 | 8.08 |
Jrue Holiday | 37.33 | 32.90 | 34.00 | 26.94 | 6.09 |
Chris Paul – As I mentioned above, the LA Clippers have been rolling, even without Blake Griffin. A trip to Cleveland didn’t seem to slow down the Warriors the other night, and I don’t expect it to really slow down the Clippers tonight either. While I think the Cavaliers will come out and have a much better effort than the one they put out their Monday Night, I’m picking the Clippers to win this game, in what should be fairly uptempo with plenty of star power to chose from.
Jrue Holiday – Has been so steady lately. Now with Eric Gordon going down, I think you’ll see a decent minutes bump for Holiday as they depth at the Guard Position isn’t great in New Orleans. The Pistons aren’t really known for playing with Pace, but, Reggie Jackson is also not known for his defensive prowess, so, I think Holiday makes for a safe, solid play this evening if you’re not paying up for Paul, Rondo or Jackson

JJ Redick | 32.92 | 28.60 | 26.65 | 23.10 | 12.49 |
Jamal Crawford | 25.17 | 25.10 | 22.68 | 19.11 | 2.57 |
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope | 25.17 | 26.80 | 28.70 | 25.77 | 11.41 |
JJ Redick – This guy nearly set the gym on fire last time he took the floor. Scoring 40 points, and breaking the Clipper record for most 3 points made in a game with 9. The game was a 140-132 OT win, and his performance helped me cash pretty huge that night – HERE –
Since Blake has been out, both Redick and Crawford have really picked up their scoring. I think that continues tonight vs the Cavaliers.
Jamal Crawford – Pretty much the same thing goes here, for Crawford as I said about Redick. Without Blake, these two really need to step their games up, and so far, they’ve done that. Chris Paul does a great job of getting these guys the ball in good shooting positions and the Cavaliers are somewhat volunerable vs Wing Players, with only Shumpert and LeBron as Defensive stoppers. I think CP3 gets his vs Kyrie Irving, and I think Crawford and / or Redick will get theirs whenever Shumper is matched up against someone else.

LeBron James | 33.75 | 38.60 | 44.60 | 46.67 | 10.30 |
Rudy Gay | 31.33 | 34.25 | 32.13 | 32.37 | 9.30 |
Kawhi Leonard | 29.75 | 32.35 | 32.25 | 38.99 | 12.21 |
Kawhi Leonard – His scoring is down a little over his last few games, vs his Season average, but on a smaller slate, I think you’ll be fine rostering Leonard tonight. The game should be played at a good steady pace, vs the Suns who love to push tempo. There isn’t anyone on the Suns who can check Leonard one-on-one, however, the Spurs Offense doesn’t really run through one person, so that limits his upside a little. Either way, I think he’s a solid play tonight for the reasons listed above. Face pace, High usage% and a clear missmatch to anyone who tries to check him defensively.
LeBron James – I know, you could pretty much roster LeBron any time he takes the floor. He’s generally one of the most consistent players in the league, as for his entire career you can just pencil in 26/6/6 every night. Recently though, he’s been scoring about 13 points less per game, than his Season average. The Cavs Offense is in a bit of a funk right now, as they try to work Irving back into the mix, while also keeping Kevin Love involved. Even with the team struggling Offensively, I still like LeBron tonight. He gets up for these games, and I know he’ll be looking to have a big game after that egg the team laid on Monday night.

DeMarcus Cousins | 54.17 | 54.40 | 51.90 | 48.88 | 5.73 |
Paul Millsap | 45.83 | 43.15 | 43.18 | 40.59 | 10.37 |
Anthony Davis | 44.17 | 36.75 | 42.23 | 46.24 | 18.46 |
DeMarcus Cousins – It was another “Boogie Night” last night, with a huge game vs the Lakers. 36 points and 16 rebounds, good for 65 DK FP.
Tonight, Boogie gets a matchup with the Atlanta Hawks, who don’t really have anyone on the inside that can handle him (who does). Look for another big night from DMC tonight
Paul Millsap – In the same game, Cousins’ counterpart this evening has an even better matchup. The Kings really don’t play any defense, and their goal seems to be, to simply outscore their opponents and wear them down with their quick pace of play. Millsap has put up 40 DK FP in 6 of his last 10 games. Tonight, should be another great night for Millsap.

Marc Gasol | 46.58 | 41.25 | 36.10 | 34.91 | 10.79 |
DeAndre Jordan | 40.75 | 41.20 | 39.88 | 36.18 | 4.52 |
Andre Drummond | 39.67 | 40.65 | 38.13 | 44.98 | 7.35 |
DeAndre Jordan – Since Blake Griffin went down with an injury, several of the Clippers have stepped their game up. I mentioned the guards, JJ Redick and Jamal Crawford above, and now its time to highlight the big man. DeAndre Jordan has dropped 40+ DK FP in 5 of his last 6 games and that should continue tonight vs the Cavaliers. The presence of Timofay Mozgov shouldn’t do much to prevent Jordan from having a good game. Kevin Love can’t check him, and Tristan Thompson is undersized. I feel like DeAndre will flirt with 20 rebounds tonight in Cleveland.
Marc Gasol – Mr Consistency, Marc Gasol is one of my favorite centers to use in DFS. He’s always hovering around 40 DK FP regardless of matchup and tonight, he gets a real juicy matchup vs the Denver Nuggets, who litterly have nobody over 7′ Tall in their frontcour other than Jusuf Nurkic. I’m not expecting Nurkic to be able to do much with Gasol in the paint. Also note, I did not mention Zach Randolph, but, this is a great spot for him as well tonight.
